The Seven Year Itch

I have never done anything more than four years at a time. Junior high, high school, college...all were short lived adventures spanning only three-four years of my life at a time. The same is true for the jobs I have had...two to three years tops for each.

Except now. Now, I have managed to do something new. I now have a job I have held for nearly seven years and I am happily married to someone with whom I have had a relationship with for that many years as well.

As I was contemplating these things the other day, I felt an urge to get out a piece of notebook paper and scribble down what my goals are for the next seven years.

1. Have a baby(ies)
2. Become debt free

I had six goals all together, but these sum it up. Four of the six related to money. I listed ways I can do something today to help me accomplish these goals in the future, which led me to write down the benefits of accomplishing them....which led me to a conclusion:

The reason I had four goals related to money is because I'm tired of not being able to do more. Not necessarily for myself (although an annual vacation to the Virgin Islands would be fabulous!), but ultimately, being tied down to a house payment and other bills really keeps us from 1. spending my time how we really want to spend it, 2. giving like no one else to help those in our family, community and world.

I am not discouraged because I know eventually we will get to where we're aiming to go (Lord willing). It does challenge me to think about what I can be doing now. Even with limited resources and time. I still have something to give.

So, here's to living like there's no tomorrow and saving like I'll live forever. :)
